Andrew was a fun-loving, inquisitive, caring, and funny 5-year-old when he was diagnosed with DIPG, a fast-growing and highly aggressive form of brain cancer in 2017. He loved superheroes, Wild Kratts, Legos, Octonauts, and any learning activity he could get his hands on. At 11-years-old, Andrew ‘s personality hasn’t changed a bit, he is still the most caring, fun-loving, animal enthusiast. He does have some different interests, but that is to be expected with any child as they age.

The first year after his diagnosis, Andrew and his family went on a couple of family vacations, including a Dream Factory trip to meet the Wild Kratts. They did their best to spend as much time together as a family, enjoying every moment.

For Andrew, the primary difference after his diagnosis was multiple hospital visits for radiation treatments, and follow-up MRIs. In 2nd and 3rd grade, Andrew loved taking printouts of his MRI images to school so he could teach his class a little bit about his condition, and share his MRI experience with his classmates, friends, and teachers.

Despite his diagnosis, Andrew is still a typical 11-year-old. He adores God, his family (especially his younger brother, Oliver), his church family, and his family’s three cats. He loves school, he loves his friends, video games, reading, learning, has a witty sense of humor that always makes people smile, and has a huge heart for others.

Funding pediatric brain cancer research means the world to Andrew and his family. It means hope, and the chance for Andrew to grow up, fulfill his potential in this world and achieve his dream of being a veterinarian. For his parents, it means that they get a chance to keep a hold of their boy, their son, their firstborn child.
