The Cure Starts Now's Tribute Funds

Brison Ricker's Tribute Page

Brison had such a passion for life, and through hard work, determination, and perseverance, he excelled in all areas of his life. He was a great student and an exceptional athlete. He played travel soccer for most of his life and had amazing skills on the field and as a true team player. As a freshman in high school, he was awarded best offensive player of the year on the Varsity team! Brison was also a talented basketball player and a track star, but motocross racing was what he loved most. He spent a great deal of time traveling around the state racing motocross. He always strived to be the best he could be. But Brison was more than his athletic achievements. He was a leader amongst his peers, he showed kindness, compassion, and respect to everyone, and he set an example for others. He could light up any room with his smile and his witty, humorous personality, and just being around him made others happy.

At the age of 15, Brison was diagnosed with DIPG, a fast-growing and highly aggressive form of brain cancer, after suffering from dizziness, blurred and double vision, and a drooping eyelid, along with coordination and motor skill issues. Like every DIPG family, this diagnosis was devastating. Brison, the once extremely healthy, athletic, and talented boy with so many goals and dreams, who had his whole life ahead of him, was all taken away in the blink of an eye. There were no encouraging words from the doctors when he was diagnosed; his parents were told that he had DIPG and they could try a couple of different treatment options but, in the end, Brison would die within 6-9 months. They could not accept that; Brison was a fighter, and his faith was strong. Instead of his parents giving him strength through his fight, it was Brison who gave them the strength to keep believing and keep fighting. They sought alternative treatments, which did help a lot; it gave them more time to make memories, go on vacations, and celebrate holidays. It allowed Brison to go to Prom, have another birthday, and spend time with those he loved.

Brison battled with courage and bravery for 23 months before he passed away on December 23, 2017. He had unwavering faith, and through his fight, he was able to inspire others to grow in their faith and also brought many others to accept Jesus into their lives. He was loved by many and a true inspiration to all.

Brison truly believed he was going to beat DIPG. He said when he did, he was going to do everything he could to help so that other kids and families would not have to go through what he did. After his passing, Brison’s parents picked up his torch so they could live out his goal for him. They work every day to create as much awareness as possible and to raise much-needed funds for research. This is Brison's legacy, and they will always continue to fight for him and all the other precious kids who we have lost to DIPG.
