Lucas was our only boy (we have 4 girls), we shared a special bond. Lucas had a great sense of humor and was always laughing and making us laugh. He was a foodie and great shopper and always got gifts for others, he was generous and thoughtful. Lucas loved baking and frequently made cakes and pizzas. He had an easy going love for life personality, he loved fishing in our pond and planting pumpkin seeds and apple trees. Lucas prayed to Jesus everyday to heal him, not because he knew what was happening, but because he knew it made us very sad and he didn’t want us sad. When asked what Lucas wanted to be when he grew up, he’d always just simply answer “I just want to be Lucas.” A donation in his honor would allow him to be “just Lucas, for a cause”, “just Lucas, for a cure”. My child is your child and your child is mine, we are all connected and DIPG doesn’t discriminate. To quote Lucas’ favorite movie “The Lorax”, "Unless someone like you cares a whole awful lot, nothing is going to get better. It's not." - Dr. Seuss, The Lorax.

During Lucas’ DIPG journey his favorite book became “The Very Hungry Caterpillar", (steroids allowed him to relate ever so much with the story). I read it to him constantly, not just because he loved it, but for the hope it gave him to battle through his struggles and transform into a beautiful butterfly in the end. A beautiful butterfly can mean so many things, for you I hope it means donating towards finding a cure and ending childhood cancer.

We chose “Do the Lucas!” For his slogan because he did a little wiggle dance we called “The Lucas!” It became not just his signature dance, but also a way of life, to love and laugh and enjoy life no matter what.
