The Cure Starts Now's Tribute Funds

Robert Smith's Fundraiser

Robert was diagnosed in August 2022 after he went for a routine eye test, he had no symptoms of DIPG as we were unaware that there was something wrong. After we got the confirmed diagnosis we went back regularly for MRI scans and it was not until September 2023 that Robert showed signs. He kept losing his balance and he had blur vision when he was doing things up close. In October we made the decision for a biopsy to be done as the doctors couldn't understand why Robert was not more unwell compared to his MRI scans. In early November, Robert had a biopsy and also the neurosurgeons put a shunt in to help reduce the fluid on his brain. Everything went to plan and he became less unbalance also hardly any blur vision which was amazing. Robert started radiotherapy on the 4th December 2023. He is having 33 treatments in 13 days and so far he is doing amazing. Robert is a very cheeky chap, loves finding out about weird and wonderful things. He loves telling jokes and calling his Dad old man. Robert gives the best cuddles and hugs. Robert is also autistic which brings its own challenges and struggles, then with the diagnosis of DIPG on top it has been a very hard time for him.
